Find Peak Element

A peak element is one that is strictly greater than its neighbors. Given an integer array, find any peak element's index. The algorithm must run in O(log n).

Problem

A peak element is an element that is strictly greater than its neighbors. Given a 0-indexed integer array nums, find a peak element, and return its index. If the array contains multiple peaks, return the index to any of the peaks.

Input

An integer array `nums`. Assume nums[-1] = nums[n] = -infinity.

Output

The index of any peak element.

Examples

Input: nums = [1,2,3,1]

Output: 2

nums[2]=3 is a peak. nums[2] > nums[1] and nums[2] > nums[3].

Input: nums = [1,2,1,3,5,6,4]

Output: 5

nums[5]=6 or nums[1]=2 are both valid peaks.

The brute-force approach

Scan left to right. Return the first index where the element is greater than both neighbors.

    left_ok = (i == 0 or nums[i] > nums[i-1])
    right_ok = (i == n-1 or nums[i] > nums[i+1])
    if left_ok and right_ok:
        return i

O(n) — linear scan.

Time: O(n)Space: O(1)
