Largest Rectangle in Histogram

Given an array of bar heights representing a histogram (each bar has width 1), find the area of the largest rectangle that can be formed within the histogram. The rectangle must be entirely within the bounds of the histogram bars.

Problem

Given an array of integers heights representing the histogram's bar height where the width of each bar is 1, return the area of the largest rectangle in the histogram.

Input

An integer array `heights` where `heights[i]` is the height of the i-th bar. All bars have width 1.

Output

An integer, the area of the largest rectangle that fits in the histogram.

Examples

Input: heights = [2, 1, 5, 6, 2, 3]

Output: 10

The largest rectangle uses bars at indices 2 and 3 (heights 5 and 6), extending 2 units wide at height 5. Area = 5 × 2 = 10.

Input: heights = [2, 4]

Output: 4

Use only bar at index 1 (height 4, width 1) → area 4. Or both bars at height 2 → area 4.

The brute-force approach

For every pair (i, j), the rectangle spanning bars i through j has height = min(heights[i..j]) and width = j - i + 1. Try all pairs and track the maximum.

return max_area

O(n²), all pairs. For 10,000 bars, that's 50 million iterations. The stack approach finds the answer in O(n) by processing each bar exactly twice (once when pushed, once when popped).

For each bar, how do I find the farthest left and right it can extend without being cut short by a shorter bar?
